Hand Stories

Gina Stovall
Slow Fashion Designer

Mar 27, 2019 by Caye Polanco

Behind every creation and every product you encounter, there is a hand story.

At Keyo, we love hands. Hands not only make us human but they also contain our identity. This week we have an interview from Gina Stovall, a Slow Fashion Designer from Chicago, Illinois.

Check out her story below.

Where are you based from?

Los Angeles, California

What do you do?

I’m a Slow Fashion Designer for my own brand called Two Days Off.

How did you get started?

I started Two Days Off after years of sewing my own clothes. I wanted a high quality and ethical alternative to the fast fashion options on the market. But it wasn’t until after sharing my designs online realized other people were wanted them too that I decided to start a small business.

What do you love most about doing what you do?

I love seeing women looking beautiful and comfortable in my clothing. Nothing makes me happier than seeing them wear something that I made with my hands with them in mind as they go about their lives.

How do you mentally prepare to do what you do before you have to do it?

I am big on mindfulness and meditation so usually if it is something I would prefer to procrastinate on I will meditate first. That allows me to recenter myself, let go of any negative feelings I may be having and get to work.

What are some of your tips for other people to follow your path?

Start where you are. You are never going to feel “ready” so try, make mistakes, and keep learning.

Any favorite books, songs, podcasts, shows?

My favorite book is Yuval Noah Harari’s Sapiens, it changed the way I see the world. As for podcasts, I love Without Fail, How I Built This, 99 Percent Invisible, This American Life, and a new favorite @goodfriendsgoodluck.

What’s identity to you?

Identity is how you choose to exist in the world, what you value and what dictates how you decide to spend your time on this planet.

How you decide to spend your time on this planet.
